In extraordinary detail

What You Will Do

This is how you can expect your programme to be structured.

Programme Structure

The programme

Designed to develop the next generation of Private Bankers within Barclays Wealth, this structured two-and-a-half-year programme will give you all the knowledge and experience you need to make the best possible start to an extraordinary banking career.

The first 6 months

In your first six months, you'll provide vital support to one of our Private Bankers. You'll be the first point of contact for clients and take responsibility for much of the administration involved in meeting our clients' banking needs. Here you'll get to grips with the role of a Private Banker and the end-to-end process. While most of your time will be spent in the office, you'll also get the chance to visit clients with your Private Banker - learning first-hand how business is conducted and how relationship management works.

During this time, you'll also benefit from a wide range of initial training. It will give you more of an insight into Barclays Wealth, provide an overview of our core product offering and specific asset classes. And, in addition to developing business skills in areas such as project management, communication, teamwork and taking control of your career, you'll commence work towards the CFA.

The next 18 months

Over this period you'll undertake three six-month rotations - one product-focused, one international and one in our wider Barclays Wealth businesses.

Product rotation - Working closely with the technical specialists whose job it is to identify business opportunities and support sales, you'll gain an insight into how we devise, develop and distribute our products.

International rotation - As well as giving you exposure to private banking in a different location and the opportunity to see how another banker runs their book, this also offers a valuable cross-cultural experience.

Barclays Wealth businesses rotation - Based in either Wealth Advisory, Wealth International, Wealth Intermediaries, Business Development or Portfolio Management, the breadth of knowledge and experience you'll gain will benefit you and our clients.

The final six months

Returning to your initial team, you'll pull together all the skills you've learned so far and work towards passing your CFA level III and becoming a Junior Private Banker.

And after that? With an unparalleled amount of client exposure and opportunities for growth, there are almost no limits to what you could achieve.
