Useful tips
- The application process
Our application process isn’t there to catch you out. In fact, it’s the complete opposite – it’s your chance to show yourself in the best possible light. So, make sure you’re well prepared and don’t fall into the trap of leaving everything to chance. It’s surprising how many intelligent candidates fall at the first hurdle, just because they haven’t prepared enough.
- The initial application
Applications aren’t processed in just a few minutes. They take time – and so should you. Find out about Barclays Wealth, attend on-campus events, ask questions and think about what you’ve seen and heard. Think about where you feel you’re going to fit in and why you want to work for us, as well as what you feel you can bring to Barclays Wealth.
It might sound obvious, but make sure you get the basics right. Contact details, applying for the right position, correct spelling and grammar – these are often problem areas, but can be remedied with attention to detail.
It’s also easy to tell if you’ve just copied and pasted your application. We want people who are passionate about Barclays Wealth, so an application tailored to us will serve you best.
Finally, try to avoid clichés. This is your chance to tell us exactly what you’re like, in your own words. You might be a hard-working team player, but that’s nothing new. It doesn’t have to be a literary masterpiece, but make your potential sound interesting and be honest.
- The interview
If you’re invited to an interview, it’s because we like the sound of you on paper and genuinely think you could potentially have a future with us. It’s easy to say, but try not to be nervous, the interviewers are there to help bring out the best in you and this is another great opportunity to show us who you are, so, be yourself.
As far as the interview itself is concerned, it’s just a simple conversation - we’re not trying to catch you out. However, do remember that we have your written application and we will be referring to it throughout the interview. Please be mindful therefore, to stay consistent during the interview.
You don’t have to exaggerate – confident, lively or understated, we’ll know if you’re right for Barclays Wealth. And there’s no hard and fast rule about who we employ.
- Assessment centres
It isn’t rocket science, but colleagues that work well together perform better. This is how we approach recruitment at Barclays Wealth. We use our assessment centres to make sure you interact well at every level and have the analytical capability to excel. You don’t have to try to impress us – if you’re an outstanding candidate, you’ll stand out naturally.
Assessment centres can vary depending on the role you are applying for, but typically you could expect to face two or more of the following: interviews, group exercise, presentation exercise, case study or role play exercise. But above all, it's a great chance for you to get to know us as much it is a chance for us to see you.
